Return to work declarations

Food handlers who've had vomiting, diarrhoea or other notifiable illness must not return to work until they've been symptom-free for 48 hours. Seito's Return to Work module keeps a record of every declaration and the manager sign-off that cleared the person to return.

Log a staff illness

Go to Return to Work and click 'New declaration'. Pick the team member, enter symptom-start and symptom-end dates, and select the illness type.

Choose the illness type

Pick from gastrointestinal (vomiting/diarrhoea), respiratory, skin condition, or other. Gastrointestinal is the strictest — 48 hours symptom-free minimum before returning.

Clear the person to return

When they're ready, a manager opens the declaration and clicks 'Clear to return'. The manager's name and the date/time are logged.

Review active declarations

Active (uncleared) declarations sit at the top of the page. Once cleared, they move into history with the full illness window and clearance details.

Tips

  • The 48-hour clock starts from the last symptom — not from when they 'feel better'.
  • Take norovirus declarations very seriously — it spreads quickly in kitchens.
  • Keep the log — your EHO may ask for it during inspection.
