Managing allergen information

Under UK food law, you must provide accurate allergen information for every dish. Seito's allergen module covers all 14 major allergens plus 'may contain' traces and dietary flags (Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free), and publishes a public-facing page at a unique URL with a QR code. The published page supports custom branding — your logo, accent colour, background and text colour — with live previews.

Add your menu items

Go to Allergen Management and click 'Add item'. Enter the name, optional category (Starters, Mains, Desserts), and description.

Group items into menus

Use 'Menus' to create separate menus — Breakfast, Lunch, Christmas, Kids — and tick which menus each item belongs to. The pills along the top switch between them, and each menu can be published on its own link and QR code so a customer only sees what's relevant.

Set allergen information

For each item, tick the allergens it contains from the 14 (celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, peanuts, sesame, soybeans, sulphites, tree nuts) and flag any 'may contain' traces.

Mark dietary attributes

Toggle Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten Free per item. These appear as badges on the customer-facing sheet.

Customise branding

Open the Branding settings to upload a logo and pick your accent, background and text colours. A live preview shows how the public page will look. Allergen badges automatically use a soft tint of your accent colour for legibility.

Publish

Click 'Publish'. Seito generates a public URL and QR code. The link stays the same across republishes — even if you unpublish and publish again later — so you can print your QR once and keep updating the menu behind it.

Share with customers

Display the QR on tables, the counter or your menu. Customers scan to view your live allergen sheet — no app or login required. On the public page they can filter by the allergens they need to avoid or by diet, and tap 'Allergen advice' for your safety note; the filter and menu controls stay pinned to the top as they scroll.

Keep several sites in step

If more than one site serves the same menu, use 'Follow another site's menu' to nominate a master site. Items, groups and categories then copy across automatically whenever the master changes, and editing is locked at the following site until you unlink. Each site keeps its own branding, public link and QR code.

Tips

  • Review your allergen data with the chef before publishing — errors can cause real harm.
  • Republish whenever a recipe changes, even slightly. The URL is stable.
  • Need a printed back-of-house copy? Use the Allergen Matrix print view — see the next guide.
